Skill level:

Lavender soap

You will need:

  • 500g  melt and pour shea soap base (other bases available include: argan oil, goats milk, aloe vera)
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Four tablespoons of dried lavender buds
  • 99% isopropyl spray alcohol (Rubbing alcohol)
  • Purple soap colouring
  • Silicone soap mould – six rectangle bars (8cm x 5.5cm x 2cm)
  • Glass jug
  • Sharp knife
  • Tablespoon
  • Chopping board
  • Weighing scales
  • Microwave

To make:

1. Sprinkle half a tablespoon of dried lavender buds into each of the soap moulds.

2. Take 250g of the melt and pour soap base and cut it into 25mm (approx.) cubes. Place the cubes of soap base into the glass jug and heat on full power in the microwave for 60-75 seconds. If the soap base still contains lumps, stir and return to the microwave for a further 15-30 seconds until fully melted.

3. Carefully pour the soap base into the soap moulds, filling each mould half full. Stir the buds and mix in the moulds. Spray the top of each soap with alcohol to prevent bubbles. Leave the soaps to cool and set.

4. Repeat step 2 with the remaining 250g of the melt and pour soap base. Add drops of purple soap colouring to the melted soap base and stir until you reach your desired colour, then add 20-25 drops of lavender essential oil and stir.

5. Carefully pour the coloured and scented soap base into the moulds on top of the first layer. Spray with alcohol and sprinkle the remaining dried lavender buds on top.

6. Allow to fully cool and set before removing the soaps from the mould.
