Star bunting
You will need:
Materials:
- Felt
- Stranded embroidery thread to match
- A variety of decorative trimmings - such as pearl buttons, glass beads, flat back gems and adhesive, glass drops (ours came from an old chandelier)
- Soft toy filling
- 2m of 15mm wide coordinating polyester satin ribbon
- 50cm of 5mm wide polyester satin ribbon to match
- Sewing thread to match the ribbon
Equipment:
- Templates
- Scissors
- Dressmakers pins
- Needles
To make
- Cut out the templates. From the felt, cut 4 pairs of large stars and 2 pairs of small stars.
- Use your imagination to decorate the front piece of each pair – using your trimmings and embroidery thread, leaving a border at the edge for sewing and omitting the glass drops.
- With wrong sides facing use 8 strands of embroidery thread, in a different shade to the felt. Sew each pair together, taking 5mm running stitches, sewing 5mm in from the edge and leaving a long thread and a gap around 1 inner point, to allow for stuffing the star.
- Stuff the stars, pushing the filling into the points, and complete the sewing.
- Cut the narrow ribbon into varying lengths – we cut lengths of 3 x 4cm, 1 x 6cm, 1 x 8cm and 1 x 11cm.
Turn the ends under. Sew 1 end to the back of 1 point on each star and the other end to the wrong side of the wide ribbon. Space the stars so they hang individually in the central area of the ribbon. - Stitch crystal drops to the lowest point on a couple of the stars.
