Little boxes advent calendar

24 triangle-shaped boxes made from old Christmas cards tied to a brand with ribbon

You will need:

  • Old or new Christmas cards
  • Christmas tags
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon
  • Ruler and pencil
  • Scissors
  • Printed advent calendar numbers
  • Clean branch
  • Holly to decorate
  • Glue

To make

1. Measure and mark with your pencil halfway down the outside edge of both sides of your Christmas card.

2. From your pencil mark draw a line to the outside edge of the folded middle as shown in the picture. Repeat until you have drawn 4 lines.

3. Fold along lines.

4. Use a hole punch to make a hole halfway in each corner flap.

5. Cut a length of ribbon and make a loop in one end.

7. Cut along the middle of your Christmas tag, leaving a small triangle holding the tie-on ribbon.

8. Cut out the required advent number and glue to the front of the tag. Tie the ribbon together at the end to make a loop.

9. Fold the edges of your Christmas card together, overlapping the punched sides and so the holes line up.

10. Thread the cut ribbon through all the holes as shown and thread on the tag before threading through the end loop.

11. You are now ready to pop in your gift and attach to the branch.

12. Tie a strong ribbon to each end of the branch for hanging.
