Valentine’s Paperweight

You will need

Finished size approximately: 6.25cm x 6cm x 1.75cm (depends on the size of your chosen mould)

  • Heart-shaped silicone mould
  • Mixing container (to be used for craft projects only)
  • Mixing stick
  • Pin
  • Rubber gloves
  • Weighing scales
  • Tweezers (optional)
  • Epoxy Resin: Two parts – one part Epoxy Resin and one part Hardener, 1:1 ratio.
For one paperweight, use 18g of Epoxy Resin and 18g of Hardener
  • Epoxy resin pigment (Blush pink)
  • Embellishments: Gold leaf flakes, printed text, paper heart confetti
  • Surgical Spirit, or Acetone and paper towel (optional)

To make

1. Place a few gold flakes, printed text and/or heart confetti into the bases/sides of the heart-shaped moulds, ensuring any printed text is face down. Use tweezers if necessary.

2. Put on the rubber gloves and place the mixing bowl onto the scales – reset the scales to zero. To fill all four moulds, pour 72g of Epoxy Resin into the mixing bowl, followed by 72g of the hardener.

3. Using the mixing stick, thoroughly stir the resin and hardener for 3-5 minutes, making sure you stir gently to minimize bubbles.

4. Add one drop of resin pigment into the resin mix and stir in well. Repeat until the desired colour is achieved.

5. Carefully pour the mixture into the moulds and use a pin to burst any remaining bubbles.

6. Leave to dry for 12-24 hours. Once set, remove paperweights from the moulds.

Notes:

  • Carefully read the directions on the label of the Epoxy Resin and Hardener as different brands may vary slightly
  • Ensure the area of work is well ventilated.
  • If you would like to reuse your mixing cup (to use for other craft projects only), apply surgical spirit or acetone to a paper towel and wipe, then wash with soapy water
