Summer Wreath
You will need:
- Rattan base wreath (Hobbycraft)
- Scissors
- Ribbon of your choice
- Florist wire
- Hydrangeas
- Mint, Ammi, Daisies or summer foliage (whatever you can snip from your garden or forage on a walk)
To make
1. Gather your materials: the hydrangeas are the most important floral for this wreath, other pieces of foliage and flowers can vary from what you can find in your garden, out foraging or at your local florist!
2. Snip the hydrangea stem down to about 7cm long, you can leave the leaves on the hydrangea as these will give a nice pop of colour in the background to the pink. Begin weaving the hydrangeas into the rattan base, it should be easy enough to secure however if needed use your wire to fix in place.
3. Work around half the base using this technique so your hydrangea heads are sat onto the base flat and full.
4. You can mix other foliage in between the hydrangeas if you prefer to break up the heads a little, use the same technique of weaving the stem into the base.
5. Once the bottom half of the base is covered (you can go for full coverage if you’d prefer although I like to have some of the gorgeous natural rattan showing), begin adding your extra foliage to the wreath weaving it in behind the hydrangeas and pointing outward from the wreath centre.
6. Once you are happy with how your wreath is looking attach your ribbon to the top ready to hang!
Tips:
- Keep your wreath looking fresh by spritzing it with water daily (I always keep cleaning product bottles that have spritzing ends on and fill them with water to use)
- The extra foliage will eventually wilt but can be replaced as your hydrangeas dry into a dried wreath to welcome autumn
- If you want to keep the stems even more hydrated use a wet moss and attach it to the base before arranging.
