Rope Coasters
Skill level: Beginner
You will need
- 7mm jute rope in cream
- Jute twine/or if you would like a colourful look you could use a colourful twine
- Hot glue gun
- Fork
To make
Begin by cutting 15cm lengths of your 7mm jute rope, enough so that when they are lined up together they create a square shape – this project uses 7 lengths.
Tie and knot a length of the jute twine at the end of one of your lengths of rope and begin wrapping it around to cover the section. You will want to leave about a thumb’s length either end of the rope to fray later.
Once all of the lengths of rope are covered, place them together to see how the coaster is looking, you can always add more lengths or take some away before glueing but you want to aim for a square shape.
Using the hot glue gun, run a strip of glue along the edge of one of the wrapped ropes before sticking it firmly to another. Repeat this until all your lengths are stuck together and leave to dry on a flat surface.
Once you have your coaster shape you can then fray the ends of the rope by pulling them apart and loosening or using a fork to fray.
