Floral coasters

You will need:

  • Silicone coaster moulds
  • Blotting paper
  • Flowers to press such as hydrangeas, foliage, daisies, ammi. Think of small delicate florals - these will press best. Alternatively, you can purchase packs of pre-dried florals

To make

1. If you are pressing your own flowers, it's best to use smaller painter flowers such as hydrangea petals, foliage leaves, daisies, pansies, violas etc. Smaller flowers will press best whereas larger flowers such as roses are best suited for being dried. Begin by placing the flowers onto the blotting paper and cover with another sheet of blotting paper before placing them under heavy books for a few weeks (this will produce the same results as using a flower press). I tend to keep a collection of pressed flowers so that if I want to craft with them I can use some from the collection rather than having to wait for them to be pressed.

2. Mix the resin with the hardener. Kits which contain both components are great as they come with mixing equipment such as gloves and measures.

Stir the components slowly together for a few minutes to ensure they are well mixed.

3. Place your chosen florals into the silicone mould and pour the resin on top of them making sure that the flowers are facing the right way up for the top of the coaster.

4.Leave to set for 12 hours before removing from the moulds.
