Decorated Gin Glass

You will need

Skill level: Beginner

  • Plain gin glass
  • Acrylic paint pens
  • Surgical spirit/rubbing alcohol or white vinegar
  • Paper kitchen towel or cloth
  • Baking tray lined with baking paper
  • Use of an oven

To make

Using the surgical spirit/white vinegar on a clean cloth, wipe over the inside and outside of the glass to ensure all marks are removed and the glass is clean.

Turn the glass upside down and begin drawing spots around the bottom of the glass in a variety of sizes in any pattern you desire.

Using different coloured acrylic paint pens, continue adding coloured spots to the glass in a variety of sizes, filling in gaps and overlapping on to other spots.

Turn the glass up the correct way and using the acrylic paint pens, add some spots to the bottom of the glass. When you have finished your design, leave the glass until the paint is dry to touch – this should only take approximately 5 minutes.

Place the painted glass on to your lined baking tray and put into a cold oven. Turn the oven on to 350 degrees f/175 degrees c/gas mark 4. Once the oven reaches the correct temperature, bake the glass for a further 30 minutes and then turn the oven off, leaving the glass inside. It is important to place the glass into a cold oven and allow it to heat up (and then cool down) slowly as placing a cold glass into a hot oven may cause the glass to smash. Once the oven has cooled down the glass can then be removed.

Care instructions

Once the glass has been baked, the acrylic paint is set and can be washed in hot water with a soft sponge/cloth, however placing it in a dishwasher is not recommended.
