Snowflake Earrings
Make, wear, love or give… these sparklers are perfect for party season!
You will need
Materials
- Size 11 Japanese seed beads
- 24 x Czech SuperDuo beads
- 2 x 4mm round beads
- 1 pair earwires
Tools
- Size 10 beading needle
- Beading thread
- Small scissors
- Beading mat
- Superglue
- Long-nosed pliers
Tips
- Stretch the beading thread smoothing out any curliness, before using
- Check the SuperDuo beads have 2 holes; if a hole is blocked, gently drill out with a sewing needle
- Always monitor which direction you’re working: it’s easy to twist the piece and continue in the wrong direction
- Keep the thread tension tight as you go to prevent a saggy snowflake
To Make
Thread needle with 65cm (25”) thread. Leaving a 10cm (4”) tail, string 1 x 4mm round bead followed by 1 seed bead and 1 SuperDuo bead 3 times. Pass through the 4mm bead again.
String 1 SuperDuo and 1 seed bead 3 times and pass through the 4mm bead again.
Starting with the next seed bead, pass the needle through the entire ring of beads again to tighten, continuing through the next seed bead and the second hole of the neighbouring SuperDuo.
String 1 seed bead, 1 SuperDuo and 1 seed bead and pass through the second hole of the next SuperDuo. Repeat 5 times.
Pass through the next seed bead and the second hole of the next SuperDuo.
String 3 seed beads and pass through the same SuperDuo again. Pass through the next seed bead, SuperDuo, seed bead and the second hole of the next SuperDuo.
Repeat this step 5 times then pass through the first 2 of the last 3 seed beads added at the tip of a SuperDuo.
String 4 seed beads and pass through the middle seed bead on the tip again to form the loop for the earwire.
Weave through the beads to the tail thread in the middle of the snowflake and tie a double knot. Apply a very small dab of super glue to the thread just above the knot and allow it to run down. Trim threads when dry.
Using pliers, gently twist open an earwire loop, add a snowflake and twist closed. Repeat for the second earring.
