Time to Talk about Organ Donation
Our campaign called on members to encourage friends, family members and local communities to make their wishes regarding organ donation known.
Background
A single donor can transform the lives of nine different people. However, the family consent rate in the UK is one of the lowest in Europe. This matters because donations cannot take place without family consent, regardless of whether someone is on the Organ Donor Register or not.
In 2014 we launched the Time to Talk about Organ Donation campaign to get members talking about organ donation. The campaign calls on every WI member to consider this issue carefully, come to a conclusion – whatever that might be – and then share it with their family.
Campaign Achievements
Over 1,000 people signed the Organ Donor Register as a direct result of the campaign.
In Greater Manchester, WIs came together to launch a regional campaign encouraging even more people to sign the register. Partnering with Manchester City Council and NHS Blood and Transplant, they ran a summer of activity to raise awareness.
