Hilary Haworth
NFWI Honorary Treasurer
Hilary Haworth was elected to the NFWI Board in 2017 and as NFWI Treasurer in 2024. She served as Chair of the Denman Trust Board in 2023-24 and as Chair of Membership from 2019 to 2023. Hilary is also a Director of WI Enterprises.
Hilary joined Ashley Green WI in Buckinghamshire federation in 2006, and Swan Sisters Virtual WI in 2021. She was appointed to the Buckinghamshire Board of Trustees in April 2014 where she served until 2024, and was Honorary Treasurer for the federation from 2020-2023.
Hilary chaired the federation’s Science and Society committee from 2011 to 2018 where she organised several large-scale and innovative events including the annual Investigation and Discovery science days, a Great Food Debate, and Feeding 9Billion, examining food production and climate change.
Hilary has taken an active role in federation and national public affairs and resolution meetings since proposing the 2017 national resolution “End Plastic Soup”. She has contributed to local and national WI campaigns, particularly those related to farming and the environment, and ending violence against women and girls.
After graduating with a degree in English from Balliol College, Oxford, Hilary worked in management education and consultancy, specialising in the design and delivery of education and training programmes for large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in a range of industries.
Hilary has lived and worked in Switzerland and then France, where her two younger children were born, and where she also gained her master’s in education from the Open University and taught English as a second language. She balances her voluntary trusteeship with a busy 'portfolio' career in the women's movement and education.
Her interests include walking, climbing and skiing, as well as cinema, choral singing and cryptic crosswords. She is also an organist at her local church.
