Angie Leach
NFWI Trustee
Angie Leach was co-opted to the NFWI Board in November 2022 and elected in 2023. Angie was previously a Member Representative on the Membership Committee for two years.
Angie lives in SW London with her family and joined Streatham WI in 2011 at its formation meeting. Her first role on the committee commenced that evening as ‘welcome host’, within a few months she was Vice President, followed by Secretary, and a few years later President. In 2020 she also joined Surrey Vixens Virtual WI and is one of the resolutions and campaigns team at both WIs.
Angie’s first NFWI Annual Meeting in Cardiff in 2013 opened up the wider WI world to her and she hasn’t looked back. She joined the Surrey Federation Membership Committee and gained experience visiting many WIs before deciding to train as a WI Adviser in January 2016. Angie still enjoys being an Adviser along with being Chair of her Federations Membership Committee. She is a Co-Chair of Surrey Federation, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, a Climate Ambassador, and helped set up the Campaign Working Party.
Angie has enjoyed joining in with many NFWI campaigning activities and is as passionate about the campaigning arm of the WI as she is about the education and friendship aspects.
Angie stopped working as a Nursery Nurse at an inner London Primary School when the first of her four daughters was born and used her time to volunteer in the community instead. Angie has served as a school Governor, Church PCC member, Brownie leader, playgroup leader and ran a support group for first-time mums for over 10 years, as well as running registration for the biannual cold water swimming championships at Tooting Bec Lido.
Outside of all things WI-related (campaigning/ craft/ friendship/ learning) Angie enjoys hanging out with her family and friends, cold water swimming, reading, exploring her hometown of London, and getting to know people.
